Senior Manager, Patient Support
Sara Stoffmacher, LMSW, is OCRA’s Senior Manager, Patient Support. Sara joined the OCRA team in June 2025 and is a staunch advocate for dismantling systemic health disparities, particularly those affecting women with cancer. She is involved in OCRA’s Support & Education programming, including the Patient Support Line, Woman to Woman Peer Mentor Program, Staying Connected Support Series, Steps Counseling, family programs, and online community through Inspire.
Before joining OCRA, Sara was an oncology social work intern at Mount Sinai Health System in NYC. She supported an interdisciplinary palliative care team with symptom management, advance care planning, and hospice referrals, while providing counseling to patients. Sara co-facilitated a caregiver support group, managed the cancer supportive services program’s Instagram account, and gained extensive experience conducting biopsychosocial assessments. She provided psychoeducation and supportive counseling to patients and families, addressed care gaps through community resource referrals, and supported newly diagnosed patients at the Breast Surgery Center as they navigated treatment and life transitions. Her work emphasized both clinical care and caregiver support, with a focus on reducing burnout and fostering connection.
Sara earned dual degrees in Psychology and Public Health from UC Berkeley in 2023, where she worked as a research assistant studying psychosocial interventions for substance use and worked with the California Department of Public Health. She completed her Master’s in Social Work in Advanced Clinical Practice at Columbia University in May 2025. While at Columbia, she was a Program Assistant at the Columbia Population Research Center and a Research Assistant at both Columbia and NYU’s schools of social work. Her research focuses on improving mental healthcare access for vulnerable populations through data-driven policy change.
