Lori Newcomb (1970-2019) was the co-founder and chairman of Newk’s Cares, the philanthropic arm of Newk’s Eatery restaurants created to increase awareness and provide education about ovarian cancer. Mrs. Newcomb was diagnosed with Stage IIIC ovarian cancer in 2013 and after experiencing her own journey with the disease, committed herself to improving the rate of early diagnosis by helping fund research and create greater awareness about the early symptoms of ovarian cancer. She joined OCRA’s governing Board of Directors in 2015.
While Lori lost her physical battle to ovarian cancer on February 28, 2019, her mission to help all women and all future women affected by the disease will continue to live on through Newk’s Cares. Everyone at Newk’s Eatery is committed to supporting ovarian cancer research and awareness, and with each community’s support, every woman can have a fighting chance. Since launching the Newk’s Cares initiative in 2014 she helped raise more than $1,000,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA).
A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Mrs. Newcomb was a longtime supporter of Ole Miss and enjoyed spending time in Oxford cheering on the Rebels. Before launching Newk’s Cares, Mrs. Newcomb devoted her time to volunteer work in the Jackson, Mississippi, area. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Newcomb and her family have been members of the Jackson community for the past 40 years. She is survived by her devoted husband, Chris, co-founder and CEO of Newk’s Eatery, and their three children: Madison, Blair and Hayes. Mrs. Newcomb’s legacy lives on through the continued and dedicated efforts of Newk’s Cares and OCRA in our shared fight against ovarian cancer.
