More than 60 gynecologic cancer patients and survivors came together at the end of December for holiday merriment, celebrating of participants’ triumphs, and embracing the new year during a special session of Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance’s online expressive arts series facilitated by our oncology social workers.

Ahead of this Express Yourself session, which centered on the theme of “celebrate us,”  each participant received a complimentary party package in the mail that included ingredients for a mocktail, a champagne flute, cosmetics, and a tiara or fascinator.

“The cancer experience is filled with so many medical moments, often limiting time to celebrate, to do something ‘fancy,’ to feel attractive, or simply to just have some holiday fun,” said Nancy Cincotta, LCSW, MPhil, and co-lead of OCRA’s Express Yourself series.

“Our December expressive arts program afforded participants the opportunity to dress up (with hair attire), to put on a festive face (makeup supplied), to give voice to celebration (great conversation), all while providing an avenue (sparkling, non-alcoholic beverages) to toast to the new year with wishes for each individual and for their beloved OCRA support community.”
