Stop Cuts to Education, Screening & Surveillance Programs

The President’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026 would eliminate the CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC).

This division supports the only federally funded education and screening programs focused on gynecologic cancers. If these cuts move forward, communities across the country will lose:

  • Johanna’s Law/ Inside Knowledge campaign – educating the public on early warning signs and risk mitigation strategies for all gynecologic cancers.
  • National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) – partnering with state health departments to offer free or low-cost screening and diagnostic follow-ups to underserved populations across the country.
  • National cancer surveillance programs, including registries that help researchers track incidence, treatment outcomes, and health disparities -essential for saving lives and guiding federal investments.

These programs are proven to increase early detection, improve outcomes, and save federal dollars through prevention. Eliminating them will impact our most vulnerable communities—and result in more late-stage diagnoses and preventable deaths.

We must act to ensure that these programs are not eliminated.

Take action today to urge your lawmakers to fully fund CDC’s cancer prevention and control efforts in FY 2026.
