In the fifth installment of BlackDoctor.org’s new six-part series with Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, Dr. Dineo Khabele, a member of OCRA’s Scientific Advisory Committee and a gynecologic oncologist as well as a physician scientist, brings her expertise to the forefront, highlighting the need for culturally competent care and early interventions to improve outcomes for Black women facing ovarian cancer. Dr. Khabele explains that ovarian cancer’s impact on Black women is disproportionately severe, with later diagnoses and misdiagnoses posing serious challenges.

Dr. Khabele underscores the importance of educating individuals about genetic testing and family history, and for increasing the number of Black healthcare providers and fostering an environment where Black patients feel supported and heard.
