In the newest installment of our continuing introduction of our 2025 grantees, Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) is proud to highlight the three recipients of our 2025 Health Equity Research Grants, part of the $6 million in new research OCRA is funding this year.
These grants support research focused on identifying and addressing disparities in ovarian and gynecologic cancer care, with the goal of improving outcomes for underserved and marginalized communities.

Meet the Researchers
Stephanie Rieder, MD, PhD, University of New Mexico

Dr. Rieder is examining patient and institutional barriers to clinical trial participation across diverse care settings, with the goal of designing more inclusive trials. Learn more about Dr. Rieder’s research project.
Caroline Thompson, PhD, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Dr. Thompson is investigating delays in referral to diagnosis for ovarian and uterine cancer, with a focus on Black patients in North Carolina, to help drive earlier detection and reduce disparities in outcomes. Learn more about Dr. Thompson’s research project.
Abigail Zamorano, MD, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston

Dr. Zamorano is developing a system to identify caregiver needs and connect families with supportive resources, with the goal of improving care for both patients and caregivers. Learn more about Dr. Zamorano’s research project.
