About Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month

September is recognized nationwide as Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. This is a dedicated time to raise awareness for all gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.

Throughout the month, OCRA joins forces with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers to amplify our voices. We focus on educating the public about risks and symptoms, highlighting the urgent need for more research funding, and honoring the countless individuals and families affected by these diseases.

Fundraising for OCRA is a great way to make an impact this September. Get inspired by Erin M., an OCRA Hero turning passion into purpose.

Erin, a 911 dispatcher in the Chicago suburbs, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2024. This September, she’s turning her diagnosis into a mission to raise awareness and support research that can bring us closer to a cure.

On September 6th, Erin is hosting an OCRA fundraiser in her community, and the support has been overwhelming. Police, fire, and dispatch teams from three departments have rallied behind her — wrapping a patrol car with an ovarian cancer awareness design, wearing teal duty shirts all month, organizing t-shirt sales, and making generous donations.

Whether organizing an event, sharing a personal fundraising page, or finding another way to make a difference, your efforts can bring hope and resources to those affected by ovarian cancer.

Start your fundraiser today. Have questions? Send us an email and we’ll help you get started.
