Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Announces New Board Leadership
John Hansbury and Sherry Jacobson elected Co-Presidents, Raynor Dahlquist and Bronwen Smith join Board of Directors
New York, NY October 19, 2011— Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is pleased to announce the election of Co-Presidents to its Board of Directors, John W. Hansbury, Esq., and Sherry Jacobson. Hansbury and Jacobson have both served on the Board for 11 years, and each has also been a member of the Board Executive Committee. Hansbury, an attorney practicing in New York City for over 35 years, has been an avid OCRF supporter and Board Member since the year 2000, after his late wife, comedic actress Madeline Kahn, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Also in 2000, Jacobson, Executive Vice President, TMP Worldwide, became a Board Member to help raise awareness and funding for a serious women’s health issue that she feels passionate about, ovarian cancer. Both have made significant contributions to the organization over the years, from establishing successful long-term corporate partnerships and signature annual events, to branding and building OCRF’s website and cultivating new board members.
OCRF’s newest Board Members, elected earlier this month, are Raynor Dahlquist and Bronwen Smith. Dahlquist joined OCRF’s Board after the death of a close friend’s sister because she wanted to support the cause and knew that OCRF was the right organization with its focus on research, detection and a cure for ovarian cancer. Smith, Owner and Lead Designer of B Floral, was nominated to OCRF’s Board of Directors after serving 10 years on its Junior Board. Smith and her family foundation have been long-time generous supporters of OCRF through the Partners in Science Program.
Both join OCRF’s Board of Directors at an exciting time. This year marks a milestone for the organization as it has received an unprecedented number of grant applications in 2011, and by year’s end will have awarded a total of $45 million in scientific research grants. The 5th biennial L’Oréal Paris Legends Gala benefiting OCRF also will take place this year, on Wednesday, November 2nd at the American Museum of Natural History. The last gala was held in 2008 and raised over $4 million.
As Ovarian Cancer Research Fund welcomes its Board Co-Presidents and new Members, the organization expresses its deep gratitude to Faith Kates Kogan, departing president, for her years of dedicated service. After 12 years as President of OCRF, Faith has stepped down as President due to family and business commitments. In her role as President, Faith played a major role in the organization’s development and remarkable growth, where she forged strong strategic partnerships with prominent industry leaders and corporations, garnered national attention for ovarian cancer, and helped raise millions of dollars for scientific research. OCRF is grateful for her many contributions and looks forward to her continued participation in OCRF’s efforts to fight and ultimately cure ovarian cancer.
