OCRA’s Survivors Teaching Students® (STS) program was recently highlighted on St. Louis Public Radio’s St. Louis on the Air in an episode titled “How Ovarian Cancer Survivors are Helping Educate Medical Students.”

The discussion featured Drs. Andrea and Ian Hagemann alongside OCRA’s STS volunteers Catherine Mikolay and Joan Gummels. Together, they shared how this powerful program connects ovarian cancer survivors with healthcare students, offering unique, firsthand insights that textbooks cannot provide.

“The goal is to help our graduates at the medical school, no matter what specialty they choose, to remember to work [up] patients for ovarian cancer and other gynecologic malignancies so they can be diagnosed more quickly and have access to more effective treatment,” said Dr. Ian Hagemann.
