OCRA-funded researchers Dr. Sunila Pradeep and Dr. Pradeep Chaluvally-Raghavan, both at the Medical College of Wisconsin, along with colleagues, summarized recent literature on the function of extracellular vesicles “in regulating the critical processes associated with cancer progression.” Their review, published in the journal Cancers, also provides insights on how these vesicles are used as biomarkers and drug carriers for the benefit of cancer patients.

“Achieving therapeutic intervention through targeting of extracellular vesicles is a crucial area of research now. Thus, a deeper knowledge of exosome biology and the molecular mechanism of immune regulation is likely to provide significant insight into therapeutic intervention utilizing extracellular vesicles to combat this dreadful disease,” the authors write.
