Newks

Founded in 2004, Newk’s Eatery is a restaurant brand based in Jackson, MS. It currently operates and franchises more than 100 restaurants in 13 states. Chris and Lori Newcomb, the founders, started Newk’s Cares—an ovarian cancer awareness movement with a mission to improve early diagnoses for all women—in 2014, one year after Lori was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer.

In 2016, Newk’s Eatery united guests, partners, and patrons in an effort to raise money for research through OCRA. Newk’s “went teal,” switching out their signature black cups for teal ones, as well as permanently replacing the brand’s traditional red straws with teal straws. Newk’s also unveiled “Newk’s Cares” water bottles—replacements for Newk’s 2-O water bottles. 10 cents from every water bottle sold year-round is donated to OCRA, giving diners a chance to join the fight against ovarian and related gynecologic cancers 365 days a year. Lori Newcomb tragically passed away in 2019. Newk’s Cares has since raised nearly $500,000 for ovarian and related gynecologic cancers research.

Coconu

Coconu founders Sarah Warnick Belzer and Taylor Warnick know the impact of ovarian cancer firsthand, as it took the life of their beloved mother, Kathy, when she was just 58 years old. Coconu believes research is the way to make progress against the disease, so the company donates a portion of its proceeds to OCRA in the name of their mother.
