Ovarian Cancer National Alliance honored for advocacy work
OCNA called “leading advocacy organization for women impacted
by ovarian cancer”
WASHINGTON, DC — On Saturday, June 20, the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance
(OCNA) will be honored by Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE) at the 2015
Spirit of Empowerment Awards. FORCE is the nation’s only nonprofit organization
dedicated to fighting hereditary breast, ovarian and related cancers. This award will be
presented in conjunction with FORCE’s 9th annual Joining FORCEs Conference in
Philadelphia, held in partnership with Penn Medicine’s Basser Center for BRCA (Breast
Cancer).
“Nearly 22,000 women were diagnosed last year with ovarian cancer; that’s
approximately one woman every 25 minutes,” said OCNA CEO Calaneet Balas. “We are
honored to advocate for these women by standing with FORCE and strengthening
women’s access to affordable, quality cancer care and prevention.”
FORCE’s 2015 Spirit of Empowerment Awards will recognize leaders in the field for
significant contributions to advocacy, research, clinical care, education, awareness or
support. This year OCNA will be honored for its advocacy work. FORCE has described
OCNA as the “leading advocacy organization for women impacted by ovarian cancer.”
