Lauren Richards lost her mom Rochelle Richards to ovarian cancer earlier this year. Lauren set out on a mission to make a difference in her community and to honor her mom’s journey. On April 22nd, Lauren hosted a benefit concert called “OVARYact” at Will’s Pub in Orlando, FL. The concert had an admission fee of $10 and included food, fun, a silent auction and performances by some local bands. Lauren shared: “I feel like this event made a huge difference to me and the community. It brought me some closure I was seeking and I’ve never been so proud of myself for accomplishing something. I know my mom is very proud, wherever she is.” Lauren was glad to know that she empowered other women with knowledge on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and hopes to make this an annual event. Lauren is still tallying all the money raised but has reported that the event made over $6,000 for OCRFA! The local paper, the Orlando Sentinel published her story in the paper, which can be found here.
