12/11/12 | In 2012, hardworking, dedicated OCRF scientists made significant advances in the fight against ovarian cancer. Below is just a sample of some of the exciting discoveries made by OCRF-funded researchers this year.
With your generous support, OCRF grantees have:
- Explained reduced survival and high platelets in ovarian cancer patients
- Provided further evidence that ovarian cancer begins in the fallopian tube
- Defined the association between endometriosis and ovarian cancer
- Discovered that AKT inhibition may be an effective treatment strategy for some patients
- Shown that patients with good social support live longer
- Demonstrated that targeting the NOTCH pathway helps overcome platinum drug resistance
- Found that microRNAs convert normal cells into cancer promoters
- Discovered that a common diabetes drug may boost ovarian cancer survival
