Elaine Stur, PhD

Dr. Elaine Stur is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Gynecological Oncology under supervision of Dr. Anil K. Sood at The University of Texas- MD Anderson Cancer Center. She got her PhD in Biotechnology in 2017 from Federal University of Espirito Santo (Brazil). Dr. Stur has been working with cancer biology since the college, and in her PhD she studied the effect of herbicides on the deregulation of canonical pathways in breast cancer.

Dr. Stur is interested in understanding the relation between cancer-associated fibroblasts and immunosuppression in ovarian cancer. Her postdoctoral work will focus on the mechanics by which specific genes can lead to immunosuppression and use chitosan nanoparticles to delivery siRNA to overcome the immune privilege and synergistically impact the therapeutic efficacy of immune modulating agents. The support of OCRFA will be essential to help her develop her career dedicated to cancer research.
