A research team, led by Dr. Ugo Cavallaro and supported by OCRA’s 2019 Collaborative Research Development Grant, made progress toward improving immunotherapies for ovarian cancer. Dr. Frances R. Balkwill, a collaborator on that team, carried this work forward, contributing to findings recently published in the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) journal.

The study explores how 3D models of ovarian cancer reveal factors within cancer cells and their environment that influence the effectiveness of CAR T-cell therapy, and highlights that both the cancer cells themselves and their surrounding environment play key roles in how well these immune cells can target and destroy cancer.
