SEATTLE, WA, July 9, 2026 — Nearly 1,000 runners, walkers, survivors, families, friends, and supporters are expected to gather at Seward Park on Sunday, July 12, for the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) Rivkin Family SummeRun, one of the nation’s longest-running events dedicated to funding ovarian cancer research. Participants of all ages and abilities will transform the park into a sea of teal and purple, with ovarian cancer survivors wearing teal event shirts and all other participants wearing purple in a moving show of solidarity, remembrance, and hope.
For more than three decades, the SummeRun has united the Seattle community around a single purpose: accelerating research that will improve outcomes for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Founded by renowned oncologist Dr. Saul Rivkin and his five daughters following the death of his wife, Marsha Rivkin, from ovarian cancer, the event has raised more than $10 million to advance lifesaving research. Since the Rivkin Center joined OCRA in 2025, the organization has proudly continued the event while carrying forward the Rivkin family’s extraordinary commitment to scientific discovery and better outcomes for patients everywhere.
This year’s program will feature remarks from OCRA President and CEO Audra Moran, who will recognize the remarkable legacy created by Dr. Rivkin and his family and the thousands of participants whose dedication has sustained the event for more than 30 years. Ovarian cancer survivor Bri Garza will also share her powerful story. After learning through genetic testing that she carried a BRCA1 mutation, Garza underwent surgery just four months after receiving what appeared to be normal test results, only to discover she had stage 3 ovarian cancer. Her experience underscores both the importance of genetic testing and the urgent need to develop more effective methods of early detection.
Continuing a tradition cherished by participants, 90-year-old Dr. Saul Rivkin will once again be at the finish line to personally congratulate and thank every runner and walker for supporting the search for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Year after year, SummeRun reminds us that hope is strongest when a community comes together,” said Moran. “For more than 30 years, Dr. Saul Rivkin and his family have inspired thousands of people to turn loss into hope and determination into action. OCRA is honored to carry that legacy forward while building upon it for future generations. Every person who joins us on July 12 helps ensure that this extraordinary tradition continues to fuel the bold research that will lead tobetter treatments, longer, healthier lives for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and, eventually, a cure.
Participants of every age and fitness level are encouraged to register and take part. Throughout the morning, participants and spectators are invited to enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities against the backdrop of scenic Lake Washington.
