Gynecologic Cancer Patients to Receive Support in 6 New Locations

WEST CHESTER, Pa (August 10, 2015) —Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) and QVC today announced six new Woman to Woman grant recipients: Cooper University Hospital, Camden, New Jersey; Shanti Project/Kaiser Permanente, San Francisco, California; Northside Hospital Cancer Center, Atlanta, Georgia; The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama; University of Tennessee Cancer Institute, Knoxville, Tennessee; and Upstate Cancer Center, Syracuse, New York.

These new sites are the latest additions to the program’s national expansion efforts, which launched in 2012 when QVC united with OCRF, for a three-year $1 million commitment to grow the program at hospitals across the country. Woman to Woman is OCRF’s signature patient support program that pairs gynecologic cancer patients with trained and supervised survivor volunteers to provide one-on-one mentoring and support.

Woman to Woman was founded in 2003 at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY, and in 2011 OCRF piloted the program’s national expansion at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. “Thanks to QVC’s generous sponsorship, Woman to Woman has grown exponentially since it became OCRF’s signature program. What started as one site four years ago has now grown to 22 sites at hospitals in 16 states,” said Audra Moran, OCRF President & CEO. “QVC’s support has enabled us to continue expanding our reach, providing vital support for women and their families to help them to cope with the many challenges of gynecologic cancers, and building a strong community of hope.”

The relationship between QVC and OCRF began in 2007 with “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE,” a unique annual “designer charity sale” broadcast live from the Hamptons. Since 2007, “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE” has raised awareness about OCRF in millions of U.S. homes and generated more than $8.9 million to fund both ovarian cancer research and the Woman to Woman program.

“Recognizing the important role that women play in building strong families and communities, QVC’s goal is to empower women to address their most critical health and wellness concerns,” said Suzanne Quigley, director of community affairs for QVC. “As the national sponsor of Woman to Woman, QVC is helping to grow an innovative program that enables women to advocate for themselves through all phases of treatment, recurrence, and recovery.”
