Gynecologic Cancer Patients to Receive New Support in Baltimore, MD and Portland, OR

WEST CHESTER, Pa (February 23, 2015) —Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) and QVC® today announced two new Woman to Woman grant recipients: Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, and Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. The new sites are part of the program’s national expansion efforts which launched in 2012 when QVC united with OCRF, for a three-year $1 million commitment to grow the program. Woman to Woman is OCRF’s signature patient support program that pairs gynecologic cancer patients with trained and supervised survivor volunteers to provide mentoring and support.

Woman to Woman was founded in 2003 at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY, and in 2011 OCRF piloted the program’s national expansion at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. With QVC’s support, OCRF expanded the program to 12 new sites, including Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY; Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX; City of Hope, Duarte, CA; Duke Cancer Institute, Durham, NC; Magee-Womens Hospital of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA; Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL; Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, New Haven, CT; Stanford Women’s Cancer Center, Stanford, CA; Stony Brook University Cancer Center, Stony Brook, NY; Tulane Cancer Center, New Orleans, LA; the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL; and Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, Providence, RI.

“Now available at 16 hospitals across the country, our unique Woman to Woman program continues to build a strong community of hope, providing much-needed support for more women and their families, and enabling them to cope with the many challenges of gynecologic cancers,” said Audra Moran, OCRF CEO. “We are so grateful to QVC for their generous sponsorship that has made this all possible.”

The relationship between QVC and OCRF began in 2007 with “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE,” a unique “designer charity sale” broadcast live from the Hamptons. Since 2007, “QVC Presents Super Saturday LIVE” has raised awareness about OCRF in millions of U.S. homes and generated more than $8.5 million to fund both ovarian cancer research and the Woman to Woman program.

“At QVC, we believe in the power of relationships to support women through their most serious health concerns,” said Suzanne Quigley, Director of Community Affairs for QVC. “OCRF’s innovative Woman to Woman program fulfills a critical and unmet need by providing emotional support and mentoring for gynecologic cancer patients. Expanding Woman to Woman with the launch of these new sites is a powerful demonstration of our relationship with OCRF.”
