The Overview: June 2022

Research

• Recent OCRA-funded research has resulted in the creation of a new bioinformatics tool that holds potential for predicting the best treatment combinations for cancer patients. Learn more about this platform known as REFLECT.

• The lazy days of summer are anything but idle for our grantees, who are hard at work every day searching for answers to our most pressing questions. Meet two OCRA researchers — Dr. Martin Cannon at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and Dr. Sandra Cascio of Magee-Womens Research Institute — and discover what drives them forward.

Advocacy

• OCRA has joined 71 other organizations in signing on to a letter calling for the U.S. Senate to incorporate critical reforms into the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) reauthorization which, if implemented, would improve diversity in clinical trials.

• Survivors Teaching Students ® (STS) is growing! The program has expanded to Montana, and is now reaching rising healthcare professionals in 40 states. Learn more about STS and how you can get involved.

Patient Support

• Our Staying Connected: Summer Series is going strong, and there’s always time to get involved! June has been focused on relationships; July we will be centering conversations around issues of fertility, and in August, the topic will be careers. We meet every Tuesday at 7pm ET. 

Events

• Registration is open for OCRA’s Ovarian Cancer National Conference! It will be held virtually, September 21-23, and will offer expert presentations, networking opportunities, support and resources. Sign up now and get the early bird pricing.

• This August, live streamers will unite to help unlock a cure for ovarian cancer. Do you have a favorite content creator who can raise vital funds just by streaming what they love and asking their audience to support them? If so, invite them to learn more about our #gameOVAR initiative.

Did you know…

• Many employers will match charitable donations made by their employees, doubling or even tripling your impact. If you are not sure if your employer matches charitable giving, this simple tool can help.

• Often companies allow employees to automatically deduct charitable contributions from each paycheck. Connect with your HR department to add a donation to OCRA through payroll.

• If you are a federal, state or local government employee, you can support Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance through payroll deductions as part of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). OCRA’s CFC number is 11154.
