Working Out to Work Towards a Cure | Heroes Highlights

In this time of giving thanks, we want to take a moment to look back and express our gratitude for the OCRA Heroes who stepped up for September’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to sweat it out at Ovarian Fitness events around the country, all in the name of raising funds for critical research, advocacy and support programs.

Riders of all levels came together in solidarity with our community at Ovarian Cycle events in Atlanta, Georgia; Orlando, Florida; Rio Grande Valley, Texas; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Activities at these signature cycling events ranged from stationary bike classes to classic outdoor rides. Meanwhile, supporters in Manhattan worked out towards a cure in the classic New York setting of Central Park during a Get Fhit event that featured an outdoor HIIT Strength class. And in Tampa, Florida, participants took it to the mat to make a difference at the Namaste for a Cure Tampa yoga event.

A special shout-out to all the event chairs who worked hard to make these fundraisers happen successfully (and safely!), including Sara Polikov and Shana Stukalsky in Atlanta, Mai Linh Nguyen in Orlando, Marlynn Olivarez in Rio Grande Valley, Susan Fuhs in Virginia Beach, Jaimie Kusher in New York City, and Benjamin Rudolph and Jeff Maloney in Tampa.

Together, these events raised nearly $84,000 — funds that can make a crucial difference for the future, as we all we work together for a world in which no one needs to fear an ovarian cancer diagnosis.

We hope you feel inspired to start a fundraiser of your own!  To learn how to get started, contact events@ocrahope.org. We’re excited to hear your story and help you make a difference!
