About Steps

The Steps 1:1 Counseling program provides free professional counseling for anyone facing a gynecologic cancer diagnosis. Our goal is to provide you with the space to process your diagnosis, understand your treatment, how to communicate with your family and healthcare team, and how to live well moving forward.

1:1 Counseling

A hallmark of the program is matching each participant with a professional Gynecologic Cancer Counselor in their state. Together they will develop an education and support plan that meets each person’s specific needs. Some patients, for example, might need help adjusting to a new diagnosis and navigating the healthcare system. Others may want to discuss managing side effects or dealing with a difficult prognosis. Those off treatment may want to learn strategies that will help restore energy and reduce stress. Family dynamics and managing difficult emotions are other areas with which we can help.

Program Overview

Wherever people are in their cancer experience, Steps 1:1 Counseling offers expert support centered around each person’s evolving needs so they know they are never alone.

Steps offers 10 free counseling sessions over a 6-month timeframe for those diagnosed with gynecologic cancer, who are over the age of 18, and currently reside in the United States. Counseling is provided by Oncology Social Workers through OCRA Steps Counselors or Iris, depending on Counselor availability in the state where you reside. If you have already received Steps Counseling and are seeking further 1:1 support, please contact our Patient Support Line at 212-268-1002.

What to expect from Steps:

  • Start by registering online or by speaking with one of our Oncology Social Workers.
  • Depending on availability, you will then be matched with either a Steps Counselor or an Oncology Social Worker through Iris, all of whom are highly trained professionals with gynecologic cancer expertise, for one-on-one psychoeducational counseling.
  • Sessions are conducted via videoconference or phone. Between sessions, your Counselor may follow up with you to provide educational materials, referrals, and/or other resources tailored to your specific needs and concerns.
  • We are always here to help. OCRA’s Patient Support team is just a phone call away. Call 212-268-1002

Our goal is for you to feel supported and live well with gynecologic cancer.
